Zoloft and Me
By Dean Beaty 9/27/09
Hezekiah 4:12 "If thou takest not thy medicine strange things
might happen." (DBV)

When I run out of my Zoloft and I’m prone to be a grouch.
No longer I’m content to lie quiet on the couch.
Little things can set me off and make me like a bear.
And often I am stormy to the one whose life I share.

It really is amazing what a little pill can do.
Just let me do without it and I might snap at you.
It’s called anti-depressant but that’s not what I see.
It helps depress my problems so folks can live with me.

With it I’m much calmer to deal with daily care.
Without it I might roar just like a sore-tooth bear.
I never saw my wife work with such vigor,
To get the pharmacy to give me a few more.

Well, all is better now my zoloft’s at the store.
Now my wife can come back from the house next door.
She really is a saint to deal with such a lout.
But I better watch my step or she will kick me out.

I Am Not a Nobody
By Rev. Dean Beaty 9/16/09
I Corinthians 2:9 “Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard,
neither have entered into the heart of man, the things
which God hath prepared for them that love him.” (KJV)

I am not a nobody, for Jesus died for me.
He shed His blood on Calvary from sin to set me free.
I trusted in His saving grace and became a child of God.
My Father is the King of Kings. Now a different path I trod.

I am not a nobody, I’m made in God’s image.
You can find it written right there on the first page.
I was made for fellowship with the Creator, God and King.
I am very special for I am God’s offspring.

I am not a nobody, for my name is written down
It’s in the precious Book of Life. In heaven is where it’s found.
I also have a mansion there that’s on a street of gold.
There are crowns that I have won and much more to be told.

I am not a nobody, for Christ will come someday,
To call me home to be with Him and there with Him to stay.
I’m worth more than all the world. That’s God’s value of my soul.
Consider what Christ paid for it and He paid the price in whole.

I am not a nobody, my inheritance is sure,
Preserved in heaven by God Himself to evermore endure.*
A child of God, joint heir with Christ adds up to quite a sum.
You may be a nobody, if to Christ you have not come.

* I Peter 1:4-5 “To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that
fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of
God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” (KJV)

God’s Great Gifts
By Rev. Dean Beaty 9/23/09
James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above,
and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no
variableness, neither shadow of turning.” (KJV)

In God’s Word the story is told.
When Christ was born they brought Him gold.
For most today the same is true.
Great gifts are given, all thanks to You.
Minds to think and eyes to see,
A voice to speak to men of Thee.

But how it must make God’s Heart ache,
When men use these His law to break.
Their eyes to view pornography.
Their voice to speak profanity.
Hands to hurt and rob and kill.
Minds to use for their own will.

These gifts were given to enhance.
But now they claim it was by chance.
They don’t believe these were from God.
So if misused does this seem odd?
When men took God out of the schools,
Eventually they turned out fools.

What a shame God’s gifts we waste,
When evilution is embraced.
What are you doing with what God gave?
Will it last beyond the grave?
The gifts you’re given, give back to God,
And help to spread His name abroad.

God Given Gifts
By Rev. Dean Beaty 9/24/09
I Corinthians 9:27 “But I keep under my body, and bring
it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached
to others, I myself should be a castaway.” (KJV)

Each talent that I have is given from the Lord.
On each one of His servants these gifts have been outpoured.
They will be empowered to fulfill our Lord’s design.
The power is all from God and none of it is mine.

Just take a look at Moses who in his own flesh tried.
But all that he accomplished was an Egyptian fellow died.
For in our strength alone we cannot do God’s will.
Without the Savior’s help the battle is uphill.

It took Him forty years but at last God finally won.
To humble Moses so that this great work could be done.
With God on Moses side and Moses hand upon the rod,
Israel was set free by the mighty power of God.

In our own flesh we will fail. There’s no room at all for self.
If we go in our own flesh we will end up on the shelf.
The gifts that God has given, He can just as well remove.
If we go in God’s great power the outcome will improve.

Forward Gears But No Reverse
By Rev. Dean Beaty 10/03/09

Choices that we make last far beyond today.
And there is no reverse along our life's highway.
That doesn't mean to say we can't go left or right.
But reversing what's been done is an idiot's delight.

Now we can make amends for bad choices that we made.
But they are not erased it only makes them fade.
Water poured upon the sand can't be put back in the cup.
Can a wrong that we have done ever t ruly be made up?

Be careful what you sow for there'll be a harvest day.
And the fruit is always more than the seed put in the clay.
A cut upon your skin will always leave a scar.
The choices made in sin our character will mar.

God promised to forgive the sin that we confess.*
We can move on in His will and find that He will bless.
But a nail pulled from a board will always leave a mark.
Don't strike the flint with iron and you will not get a spark.

When once a clapper strikes the bell can't be unwrung.
A word can't be unsaid once it cross o'er our tongue.
It is wisest to think twice before speaking what is terse.
For the engine of our life doesn't come with a reverse.

* I John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins,
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (KJV)

Fear of Man and the Fear of God
By Rev. Dean Beaty 9/03/09
Psalm 27:1 “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (KJV)
Isaiah 41:10 “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am
thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee
with the right hand of my righteousness.” (KJV)

There is no peace for the fearful, for fear is like water on fire.
These two will not go together for the fire will have to expire.
Three hundred and sixty-five times, “Fear not,” is found in God’s Word.
For every day of the year God tells us that peace is assured.

This life has many hard trials. Each one could cause us to fear.
“Lo, I am with you always.” His spirit will always be near.
These were the words of the Savior. They constitute a guarantee.
With Almighty God at our side, His presence assures victory.

There is one fear that is holy and that is the fear of the Lord.
Fear of displeasing the Savior, this God will surely reward.
Faith, trust and loyal surrender stem from God-honoring fear.
Living a life without reverence is a life that’s not wholly sincere.

A casual acquaintance with God shows lack of true reverence of Him.
A flippant attitude towards God is an attitude He will condemn.
We live in an irreverent time. Men think that with God, its okay.
But God is perfect in Holiness and we must approach Him that way.

Changed By Chastening
By Rev. Dean Beaty 9/7/09
Hebrews 12:5-7 “And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?” (KJV)

I know my Father loves me for He’s on my case each day.
This is cause He loves me even when I go astray.
Christ proved His love on Cal’vary when He died upon the tree.
And even when I fail Him, He loves me constantly.

We may not deny the Lord like Peter, with a curse.
Do we accept His Lordship? Which one of these is worse?
Remember that Christ loved you before you knew His love.
And He will love you always until in heaven above.

Christ loves us when unlovely, for Jesus changes not.
And from His heavenly storehouse, with blessings we are fraught.
Oh what love with which we’re loved beyond our means to show.
And His love will never change or ever come and go.

Every child that Christ receives He chastens, for He cares.
This brings us to perfection, so we His likeness bear.
This is the change God’s after; to make us like His Son.
But not till safe in glory will this victory be won.

“Till then dear Lord, keep on my case and chasten at Thy will.
Thou knowest how to guide me and with Thy Spirit fill.
If it takes chastisement to change me here and now;
Then take me to the woodshed till to Thy will I bow.”

The Demise of the Godly Man
By Rev. Dean Beaty 11/4/09
Psalm 12:1-3 “Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the
faithful fail from among the children of men. They speak vanity
every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double
heart do they speak. The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and
the tongue that speaketh proud things:” (KJV)

“Help, Lord: for the Godly man ceaseth.”
For righteousness has suffered death.
We have turned instead to our own way.
And God's Word we do not obey.

How long will God put up with our pride,
When we set all of His laws aside?
We put ourselves upon our own throne.
And tell the Lord to leave us alone.

God will not always strive with mankind.
A place for rebels God has designed.
His patience is long and mercy is great.
But there's coming a time when it is too late.

Honest repentance our God will still hear.
So call upon Him while He is near.
If there's conviction, please do not delay.
The God of all grace will not turn away.

A Stone for Bread
By Rev. Dean Beaty 12/2/09
Luke 11:11 “If a son shall ask bread of any of you
that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish,
will he for a fish give him a serpent?” (KJV)

If I ask the Lord for bread.
Would He give a stone instead?
When e'er I look at all the rest,
Have I been given less than best?

Do I think I've been short changed,
And wish my life were rearranged?
The Apostle Paul said, “Be content.” (Phil. 4:11)
When he himself lived in a tent.

At least that's how he earned his bread.
When not upon a prison bed.
Yet his cell was filled with praise.
Is that our way on our best days?

Envy can be a vicious sin,
That puts us in a tailspin.
It shows a lack of thankfulness.
These are sins we must confess.

Will I trust God to do what's right?*
When earthly trials become my plight?
That God gives best, I must agree.
For I'm His child and He loves me.

Genesis 18:25 “... Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?” (KJV)

Peaceful or Perplexed
By Rev. Dean Beaty 11/25/09
John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world
giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (KJV)

Jesus has promised real peace to those who love the Lord.
Do you have the peace of God or do you have discord?
Like the evasive fountain of youth, you will never find it here.
For it only comes from God to those who will draw near.

Only God can give you peace. The Bible makes this clear.
Jesus is the Prince of Peace. Only He removes our fear.
His Father is the God of Peace, also the God of Love.
Turn to God for lasting peace, it comes from God above.

Peace is not that hard to find if you will trust the Lord.
He will fill your heart with love and also sweet accord.
The world will never give you peace; it's filled with war and strife.
Jesus Christ gives lasting peace also eternal life.

The end of life is not in doubt, a home is prepared for you.
If you put your faith in Christ and trust His Word is true.
You will live with Christ the Lord for all eternity.
Because the blood of Jesus Christ was shed to set you free.*

The peace that only Jesus gives is your if you will trust.
But if you look for peace on earth, you'll look till all is dust.
Call upon the Lord today and let His peace come in.
You will have the peace of God and a heart that's cleansed from sin.

*I John 1:7 “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one
with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” (KJV)
John 6:37 “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh
to me I will in no wise cast out.” (KJV)
