No worries. I myself check periodically to see who's commented on what. I like that feature on the side that says "latest activity."

If you are planning on switching your pets to raw, the site I mentioned to you is really good. There are a lot of members who are very knowledgable about food. Many pet owners that have had pets for many years as well. The forum is set up with a food section that has sub-forums as well. It's also just a good site for any issues you might have questions on. I got Vlad last year and I didn't have a clue about what do expect or what to do with a new kitty. The site I told you about really has saved me a lot of worry and I've found out so much about cats and dogs.

I've been trying to get my gang on good quality food for a while. I was a little apprehensive at first about the raw, but the more I read the more I liked what I read. And finding pre-packaged food helps too, because you know they have all of the proper nutrition in there. The people I've spoken to, many of who feed their pets raw, are all very happy with it, and very knowledgeable, so having a place I can ask questions at is great. Today I gave Maks 3 medallions of the Nature's Variety lamb and he ate it with such gusto! I've never seen any of my cats eat something with so much vigor, but he loved it. Ate it all up. I'm hoping as the days or weeks go by, the others decide to get curious and eventually like it as well.

I'll certainly post anything new I come across. We are all here to share our experiences and help each other keep our little ones happy, so any information we can pass along is great.

Welcome Nuria. It sounds like you and I are on a similar pet journey. I was just checking out a pet store today that carries raw food for cats. Going to give that a shot as well.

If you get a chance check out the book on the home page called "The Nature of Animal Healing." I just finished chapter two this morning and I gotta tell you I love it. It's strange because I had no intention of buying it but he offers some amazing insights (and as a vet it makes him so much more credible).

I also like it because he applies much of what he does based on his own eating experiences and oddly enough it has made me more aware of my own eating habits as well. Since you are already exploring alternative foods etc thought I would throw that out to you.

Hmmm....maybe i should start a little Oprah style book club on this as well?? :-)

I will keep you posted on my discoveries and do the same for me. Would love to hear what you discover.

talk soon
DD.

Profile Information

Relationship Status :
Single
Which city and country do you live :
Miami - USA
Type of cat(s) :
All of my cats are rescues. I have 2 black cats, male and female, a brother and sister pair, orange boy, calico/tortie girl and a stray I feed and take to the vet, tortie
How many cats do you have :
5 - 4 indoor and 1 stray I feed and take to the vet
Your cats name(s) :
Vladimir, Oksana, Maksimilian, Kiska and Czarina
Nicknames?
Papo, pipo, mama, papuccino, mamamita, little miss, tiny miss, papito and sweetie for all
How old are they?
Vlad turned a year old in Feb of 2008, Oksana also just turned a year this April of 2008. Maks and Kiska are estimated to have been born around August of 2007, so they will soon be a year old. Czarina is estimated at 3 or 4 years.
Your most favourite thing your cat does?
Everything! I do love to watch them play and get comfy to sleep next to me. I also like to hear them eat! I know it sounds weird, but it sounds so cute to hear them chew their food. :)
Does your cat sleep with you?
All my 4 indoor cats sleep with me.
What would your cat say is the thing you do to annoy him/her the most?
I fuss way too much on them. I think when I'm cleaning Vlad's little face and eyes, he looks almost like he's saying "aww mom!"
What kind of food do you feed your cat? wet or dry? brand?
Canned - Wellness grain free, Dry - EVO, Organix or Wellness Core. Maks is the only one who eats raw. He likes Natures Variety Lamb pre-packaged food.
What kind of kitty litter do you use? clay, corn, pine? Brand?
Swheat Scoop. They have so far not been too fussy about litter, but I find the Swheat Scoop is better at odor control.
Do you let your cat outside? If YES has anything ever happened?
My 4 indoor have been raised inside, if I ever let them outside it would be in a large enclosure. The stray, Czarina I tried to bring inside but she got away from me after 2 weeks, and I'm debating on whether she would be happy if I tried it again.
About Me:
I'm single. I love to read, write, surf the net. I'm a vegetarian and consider myself a laid back person.
Interests and Hobbies:
I like watching documentaries on TV, and I like some reality shows on Bravo channel as well as Animal Planet. I like to also read and write and for Halloween I like to plan and make costumes for my gang and a friends gang too.
Do you shop on line? If YES. What do you like to buy?
I buy lots of things. I shop at Amazon the most. They have a better variety of things and it's like a one stop shop.

Class action lawsuit against pet food industry.

I'm a firm believer we should all know what we eat and what we feed our pets. When I first brought Vlad home I had no idea how to find a good quality food for him. I thought the foods advertised on TV were okay. In doing some research and reading as much as possible I realized that most commercial brands really are not as nutritious as they advertise. Some even include things you would never even imagine. After the big pet food recall of last year, we owe it to your furry butts to give them food… Continue

Czarina's settling in, sort of.

I have her set up in my kitchen. She's got the litter in the corner, which she is not finally starting to use after being on a pee and poo strike since Saturday evening. She's got her food and water near her and she has a cute little pyramid bed she doesn't want to leave. I know right now that's her security so I have it turned away from the opening of the kitchen, which I have blocked by a bamboo screen.

The Fantastic Four have been slightly curious but they've pretty much been leaving her be.… Continue

The Situation with Czarina

It's becoming near impossible to keep her outside safely. There's a nasty old woman who is yet again trying to cause trouble with her. She got into a huge argument with the maintenance man who feeds her and threw away her food right in front of him yelling at the top of her lungs. She's crazy. She's an alcoholic and a drug addict, and I'm fearful of what she might do to Czarina. The maintenance guy was having to feed her inside his office.

So I've brought her inside. I blocked the kitchen openi… Continue

The Whole Pet Diet

This is a book I recently got. It's premise is you can keep your pet healthy by cooking for them yourself. This is a little like feeding your pet a raw diet, only here you cook the food. It's an interesting read and some of the recipes don't look too difficult to make.

The book is authored by Andi Brown, who is the director of Halo foods for pets, makers of Spot's stew.
